FEATURE — Characteristics

Point1

Hygiene management at a medical institution

Ear piercing is a medical procedure. Performing it in a hygienic environment with reduced infection risk may help limit the risk of complications.

Point2

Various locations supported

Ear piercing is generally performed with a piercing gun. For locations other than the ears, please bring your own jewelry; the physician will perform the piercing using a needle under local anesthesia.

Point3

Care for pain

We use cooling and other measures to help limit pain. When the physician performs the procedure, local anesthesia is used.

Point4

Broader fashion options

Unlike clip-on earrings, pierced earrings tend not to cause discomfort even when worn for long periods.

Important notes (risks, side effects, downtime)

Treatment timeAbout 3 minutes
PainFor the ears, the pain is generally tolerable with cooling alone. For other locations, local anesthesia is used.
DowntimeThe time for the hole to settle varies by individual but is generally about 1–2 months.
NotesIf you wish to have a piercing in a location other than the ears, please be sure to bring your own jewelry.
Side effectsInfection, swelling, pain, bleeding, metal allergy, keloid formation, and uneven hole shape may occur. Those with metal allergies may not be able to wear pierced earrings due to skin irritation. Those with keloid-prone skin may develop raised tissue during healing — we will explain in detail at consultation.

*The above describes a typical course; pain, downtime, and recovery vary by individual.
*Treatment time does not include consultation time.
*Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from treatment.

Doctor’s note

About ear piercing

In Japan, ear piercing is defined as a medical procedure and may only be performed by a physician or by a nurse acting under physician instruction. Over-the-counter piercing guns and self-piercing can lead to issues such as infection, metal allergy, uneven holes, or keloid formation.

At our clinic, we use sterilized piercing guns or needles and perform the procedure in a hygienic environment. We also offer metal-allergy-friendly first earrings, so you can choose based on your skin and preferences. We also support locations other than the ears (navel, cartilage, nose, etc.).

Appropriate care during the 1–2 months it takes for the piercing hole to stabilize is important. We will carefully explain how to care for it, so please feel free to ask.

Q&A (Frequently asked questions)

From what age can ear piercing be performed?

Our clinic provides this service to high school students and older. Minors require a consent form signed by a guardian.

Do you support locations other than the ears?

In addition to the ears (lobe and cartilage), we also support the navel and other locations. For locations other than the ears, please bring your own jewelry.

What kinds of first earrings are available?

Choose from stainless steel, metal-allergy-friendly earrings, stones, or pearls. For those concerned about metal allergy, we recommend allergy-friendly materials such as titanium.

How long does it take for the piercing hole to settle?

It varies by individual, but generally about 1–2 months for the earlobe; cartilage piercings can take six months or more. During this period, it is important to leave the first earrings in and continue appropriate aftercare.

Can I receive treatment if I have a metal allergy?

We have metal-allergy-friendly earrings available — please discuss it with us. However, depending on the severity of the allergy, treatment may not be possible.

Can I receive treatment while pregnant?

There are no reported issues with treatment during pregnancy, but as it is a cosmetic procedure, we ask patients to refrain as a precaution.

Can I specify the position of the piercing?

Yes, you can specify your preferred position in advance. We do a final check together with a mirror at the marking stage, so please feel free to discuss your preferences.

Why patients choose us

I’m a bit nervous about doing it myself.

At the clinic, medical professionals perform the procedure in a hygienically managed environment, exactly as you would like the design. We also offer metal-allergy-friendly first earrings.
